I love that my #bestnine includes the places I have lived and everywhere my family is from. A perfect visual representation of places close to my β€οΈ. Happy New Year everyone! #texas #uae #uk #spain #italyLast year in Milan πRemembering Christmas in Spain πͺπΈπππ»β€οΈYesterday, exactly 1 month after the national guard evacuated people out of our flooded neighborhood, a little thunderstorm visited our area, a timely environmental cue to trigger everyone's memories of floating out of their houses. As I surveyed the falling rain, a shoe swiftly floated down my street in the small but none-the-less worrisome river that had accumulated curb-side. Before I could grab it, it dropped into the gutter to join who-knows-what down below. Must be a lot of gunk clogging things up down there, because within a few minutes of rain, water started building up on the streets again. Right now rain reminds me of air mattresses masquerading as boat transport, sewage encrusted floors and N-95 masks. But not too long ago, especially when we lived in the desert, I treasured the sound of rain. It reminded me of cozy cuddling under blankets, dramatic black clouds and falling asleep to a lullaby of pitter patter on the roof. I'm trying to channel those desert vibes...This photograph and another print of mine are on display at the Houston Center for Photography as part of an exhibition that features selected work of HCP's students. They will be on display until October 22nd. Unfortunately, I missed the opening reception last night as I am knee-deep in flood repair. (Thankfully, not literally knee-deep in water, anymore.) π Drop by if you are in the area - looks like there is a lot of beautiful and interesting work featured. So sad! #HarveySurreal scenes from my neighborhood less than 24 hours ago. These were taken from entrance to the neighborhood - water just got deeper as you continued down the street. Today the sun is shining and it feels like a beautiful spring day. Truly bizarre. Thank you to my neighbors who helped us evacuate. Thank you to all of our family and friends who have been checking in and offering help and useful information. Thank you to another neighbor who is in law enforcement and worked 48 hours nonstop to help others and was unable to be with his own family. Thank you to the numerous people, complete strangers, who offered us rides and their homes to stay in. Thank you to the countless people who brought their Jeeps, trucks and boats to a dangerous area to help evacuate people. Thank you to the people who bought new boats and kayaks to assist in evacuation efforts. Thank you to the people from other cities and states who traveled to the Houston area to help. Thank you to the woman who appeared out of nowhere to offer me hot coffee - still wondering where she came from! π Thank you to everyone who is helping in an official capacity to help Houston get on its feet. Thank you to all the volunteers at shelters and everyone who is making donations. The generosity and kindness of so many have been much more impactful to witness than the flood. Truly overwhelming and feeling so grateful ππThe Harvey Party has started. Looking forward to seeing blue skies like this over Houston again. Stay safe everyone!Dive into the archives
