Curious Headlines (1)

News articles pertaining to the UAE are often kooky, in a fascinating way.  I’m starting a new segment entitled “Curious Headlines from the UAE.”  These human interest stories speak volumes about the culture here.  The first in the series is:

UAE super-dad pays Dh50,000 to 93 sons for Eid

I used to love these. Please post more when you find them! Not headlines, but a couple of quotes I saved “After receiving numerous complaints about employees at the ministry not answering their phones, the minister instructed the operators to answer all calls, and be civil to callers….Calls he made to his own office also went unanswered by his secretary.” And “An Egyptian cleric’s controversial fatwa claiming that nudity during sexual intercourse invalidates a marriage….” Monty Python couldn’t have done better 🙂
